Description

New Jersey author Michael C. Gabriele will present a program on his newest book, “Stories from New Jersey Diners – Monuments to Community.” The program is free and open to the public.

The book documents stories gathered from throughout the Garden State, “the Diner Capital of the World”—sentimental recollections from diner owners, diner employees and loyal diner customers. The program will trace the history of New Jersey’s diners business, and provide details on the era of lunch wagons from the 1890s and early 1900s. Lunch wagons were the precursors to today’s modern diners and food trucks.

For more than 100 years diners have played an important role in New Jersey’s history as gathering places for a community. Diner experiences—good food, slice-of-life encounters with friends and strangers, and the heartfelt memories they inspire—reflect the state’s spirit, culture and mythology.
